Volunteer Spotlight: June Zhu

Zhu Shares About Her Experience Volunteering at the Binaytara Foundation

Meet June Zhu, one of our amazing volunteers! She has volunteered at two of our conferences in Salt Lake City and she is a Senior Product Manager with Cambia Health Solutions, a parent company for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Outside of work, she enjoys the outdoors, and she is an avid biker and swimmer. She enjoys everything beautiful in life including nature sceneries, art, designs, and people.

She has volunteered in a couple of roles at our conferences, registration and tech support, and she has enjoyed helping our organization.

“Volunteering at Binaytara has expanded my understanding of healthcare needs for people in underdeveloped countries. It allowed me to take small actions and make a difference. In addition, as a healthcare worker, I like to be surrounded by doctors, listening to their stories and learning about new ways to treat patients.”

She has been impacted by the Foundation and its mission, stating that, “the Foundation has really opened up my mind. I used to think one has to be super accomplished and accumulate tons of money before starting charity work. Meeting and chatting with Tara, one of the founders of this Foundation, has completely changed my beliefs.”

Zhu enjoys being involved in her community because it allows her to do something meaningful, give back, and meet people. She said, “Volunteering adds meaning to my life that I won’t get elsewhere. It also reminds me how fortunate I am to have basic resources readily available.”

When asked what advice she would give future volunteers, she said, “Every volunteer has something special to contribute. Just asking and listening to the [organizer’s] needs will make their experience fulfilling.”

We are grateful for June and appreciate her time and help with our conferences and we look forward to seeing her at out next Salt Lake City conference!
