Binaytara Foundation is Hosting Three Conferences in the Beginning of 2023

ASH Review Portland, Highlights from SABCS, and Thoracic Oncology San Diego

The Binaytara Foundation is facilitating three conferences with varying focuses at the beginning of the year. These meetings include BTF’s ASH Annual Meeting Review in Portland, OR on January 6-7; Highlights from SABCS on January 21 in Seattle, WA; and the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Symposium on February 3-4 in San Diego, CA.

ASH Annual Meeting Review

At this meeting, faculty will present important information, findings, and impacts on care from the ASH 22 conference. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from hematology experts and participate in discussions relevant to their work and patients.

Conference

Dr. Sri Tantravahi is the conference chair and will be joined by faculty from the Mayo Clinic, University of Washington, Fred Hutch, and Oregon Health & Science University, among others. The meeting will feature a tumor board-style case-based discussion moderated by Dr. Tantravahi and Dr. Aaron Goodman. Dr. Natasha Goodwin of Providence Healthcare, Dr. Eva Medvedova of Oregon Health & Science University, and Dr. Curtis Lachowiez of Oregon Health & Science University will be panelists.

Highlights from SABCS

Dr. Fengting Yan and Dr. Janice Kim are leading this conference as the co-chairs and hope to offer key advances, presentations, and impacts from the SABCS meeting in Texas. Some doctors may have been unable to attend, and Dr. Yan wants to provide access to the information and continue the conversation.

Highlights from SABCS will feature leading oncologists in the field of breast cancer from around the country, including Dr. Nancy Davidson, Dr. Angelena Crown, and Dr. Wendy Wang. These physicians represent various specialties and expertise within breast oncology.

Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Symposium

Hosted in beautiful San Diego, this conference will focus on thoracic malignancies and the current management strategies for lung cancer. Drs. Kristin Higgins and Sandip Patel have gathered leading thoracic oncologists who will share their expertise. The program features in-depth discussion and analysis of the latest scientific findings and practice-changing advances in molecular testing and targeted therapies for thoracic oncology.

Doctors from a wide range of institutions and universities are among those speaking, including City of Hope, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rutgers University Health, and Scripps Health.

Announcing the Binaytara Foundation 2023 Summit on Cancer Health Disparities (SCHD23)

The conference will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Seattle on April 28-30, 2023

We invite you to attend the 2023 Summit on Cancer Health Disparities (SCHD23) in Seattle, WA! This conference is one of the largest gatherings of clinicians and researchers interested in cancer health disparities. Faculty from across the country will be speaking and in attendance. Dr. David Aboulafia of Virginia Mason, Dr. Hannah Linden of Fred Hutch, and Dr. Ana Maria Lopez of Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center are the Conference Chairs, along with Associate Chairs Dr. Siddhartha Yadav of Mayo Clinic and Aparna Parikh of Massachusetts General Hospital.

SCHD23 is an accredited continuing education activity (CME activity) that will foster collaborative interdisciplinary interactions and partnerships to stimulate the development of new research and clinical practices that reduce cancer health disparities and improve outcomes of the diverse patient population. The top three highest-scoring abstracts submitted by residents or fellows will receive complimentary registration and two free hotel nights during the conference. Opportunity for Fellows and Early Career Oncologists to Co-Author Conference Proceeding Publications at the 2023 Summit on Cancer Health Disparities

Senior Fellows and Early Career Oncologists Interested in Cancer Health Disparities are Encouraged to Apply

Interested in being mentored by oncologists and writing conference summaries for publication in a peer-reviewed journal? Apply for this amazing opportunity that will provide experience in publishing, free admission to one of the largest cancer health disparities meetings, and a $500 honorarium!

One senior fellow or oncologist will be selected to work under the mentorship of the session chairs and other session speakers to draft the conference session proceedings. Conference speakers will act as co-authors, with the fellow as the first author and the session chair as the senior author. Email: [email protected] with your CV to apply. The application deadline is January 15, 2023.

The conference proceedings article, once complete, will be published in the International Journal of Cancer Care & Delivery (IJCCD).

The guidelines are as follows:
• Completion deadline – June 1st, 2022 (~4 weeks after the conference)
• Manuscripts must be submitted in a single word document, with 12-point font (Arial) and double line spacing
• Word limit- 2000 words
• Abstract- 250-word limit
• Take home point – three to five bulleted sentences to highlight the take-home messages
• One figure and/or one table can be included. Figures and tables can be submitted as separate attachments or with the manuscript in the same word document after the reference section. Tables should have at least ½ inch margins on both sides, a title, and appropriate footnotes. All figures must have a figure legend and a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Standard formats are accepted. However, TIFF, JPEG, EPS, and PDF are preferred. Authors are encouraged to prepare figures and schemes in color. Figure legends should be placed at the end of the main body of the manuscript before the reference section

Four Oncology Conferences Held in October 2021

The Binaytara Foundation organized three in-person oncology conferences in October 2021. The 2021 Updates in Hematologic Malignancies and the 2021 Precision Oncology Summit were held in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 2 & October 3, 2021 respectively. These two conferences brought oncology providers from the region to discuss new updates in the care of blood cancer patients and the advancements in personalized oncology care utilizing precision oncology.

Renowned precision oncology experts such as Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, Dr. Vivek Subbiah and other experts provided participants with the latest updates in the management of cancer patients. Similarly, hematology experts such as Dr. Jerald Radich of the University of Washington and several faculties from the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute provided attendees with the latest updates in the management of malignant hematologic disorders. In addition to lectures, discussion, and case-based presentations, these two conferences also featured scientific abstract presentation sessions. Researchers from various institutions in the United States presented their abstracts at both the Updates on Hematologic Malignancies conference & Precision Oncology Summit. Accepted abstracts from both of these conferences are published in the International Journal of Cancer Care & Delivery.

Here, in Seattle, we held the Seattle Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Conference & the Northwest Oncology Nursing Summit on October 23, 2021 at the Crown Plaza Downtown. Both of these conferences featured cancer care providers from the pacific northwest as participants and faculties. Watch the recordings from these meetings on our Education Academy. All recorded webcasts provide continuing education credits for eligible healthcare providers, and are free for those who are not employed by the industry.

Binaytara Foundation Hosted a CME conference, CheckPoint Inhibitors in Lung Cancer, in Everett, Washington

The Binaytara Foundation hosted a CME conference, CheckPoint Inhibitors in Lung Cancer, on March 26, 2022, at the Delta Hotels in Everett, Washington. This half-day conference was the first in a series of mini oncology conferences the Binaytara Foundation plans to host across several parts of the Pacific Northwest. Designed to provide an active learning opportunity and direct participation of community oncologists in discussions, the Binaytara Foundation’s mini-conferences offer oncologists and oncology nurses an intimate atmosphere for learning, networking, and collaboration among community oncologists and academic physicians. These accredited oncology continuing education activities (CME) are highly rated by participants and focus on enabling oncology practitioners to interpret and implement practice-changing research findings into their day-to-day clinical practices. 

The live continuing education activity, Checkpoint Inhibitors in Lung Cancer conference, featured lectures by two lung cancer experts from Seattle, Cristina Merkhofer, MD, MHS & Rafael, Santana-Davila, MD, both from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, followed by tumor board style case presentations and discussions with local oncologists, Mehrdad Jafari, MD, Ph.D. from Skagit Regional Health, Arthur Molina III MD from Skagit Regional Health, Joseph Rosales, MD from Virginia Mason Medical Center, Guobin Song, MD, Ph.D. from Virginia Mason Medical Center.

The Binaytara Foundation is accredited by the Washington State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The Binaytara Foundation is also approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing to provide continuing education to nurses. In 2021 alone, the Binaytara Foundation provided continuing education to nearly 1000 healthcare providers from different parts of the country and internationally through our in-person, virtual, and self-paced continuing medical education activities. 

Expanding beyond the Lung Cancer mini-conference

The Binaytara Foundation plans to organize a series of similar mini oncology conferences in other parts of Washington as well as other Pacific Northwest states – Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and Oregon. These mini oncology conferences will provide continuing education credits to oncologists and nurses, and follow an educational format similar to this last lung cancer conference held in Everett, WA on March 26th. The mini oncology conferences will focus on specific disease updates such as lung cancer, breast cancer, Hematologic Malignancies, gastro-intestinal cancers, renal cancers, and other general cancers.

The next in the series, Montana Hematology Conference, will be held in Whitefish, Montana on May 13th, 2022. This hematology conference will feature hematologists from the University of Utah, Huntsman Cancer Institute and local oncologists from Montana as faculty. We expect approximately 18 healthcare providers from Montana and Utah to participate in this accredited oncology continuing education activity.

In addition to these mini-conferences & large-scale in-person live conferences, the Binaytara Foundation Education Academy offers several self-paced accredited continuing education (CME) activities for oncologists and oncology nurses interested in earning free continuing education credits at their own convenience. These activities include journal-based CME as well as recorded webcasts. All self-paced CME activities available on the Binaytara Foundation Eduction Academy are free for healthcare providers not employed by the biopharma industry. Members will be involved in the planning and implementation of the educational activities of the Foundation, including Hematology/Oncology meetings, the International Journal of Cancer Care & Delivery (IJCCD), and the educational game. Our Education Academy Chairs, Drs. Sid Yadav and Sri Tantravahi, have formed the following subcommittees:

BTF hosted the 2022 Highlights from ASH on Feb 19, 2022 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

The 2022 Highlights Highlights of ASH was hosted on February 19, 2022 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Binaytara Foundation Education Academy hosted an in-person Conference, 2022 Highlights Highlights of ASH, on February 19, 2022 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to review the Highlights from the American Society of Clinical Oncology 63rd Annual Meeting that was held in December 2021. The conference was chaired by Dr. Srinivas Tantravahi from the University of Utah and included reviews of important abstracts on both malignant hematology and benign blood disorders.

Dr. Shaji Kumar from Mayo Clinic, Dr. George Rodgers from University of Utah, Dr. Doris Quon from the Orthopedic Hemophilia Institute of the University of Utah, Dr. Parameswaran Veugopal from Rush University Medical Center, Dr. Jacob Appelbaum from the University of Washington and several other hematology experts participated in the this CME accredited hematology conference.

Anyone who was unable to attend the live, in-person meeting can watch the recorded webcast from this ASH Review meeting and claim free oncology CME. Healthcare providers who participated in the live version of this ASH Review meeting in Coeur d’Alene can also review the webcast but can only claim CME credits for one activity.

All self-paced CME activities provided by the Binaytara Foundation are free for healthcare providers not employed by the biopharma industry.

The 2022 Highlights of ASH is the 3rd Annual ASH review organized by the Binaytara Foundation. Based on the identified educational needs, the Binaytara Foundation plans and implements educational activities that are relevant for our target population. In 2021, we provided continuing education to 700+ healthcare providers through our in-person and online platforms.

The Binaytara Foundation invites you to submit your research for our Summit on Cancer Health Disparities (SCHD23) in Seattle, WA, on April 28-30, 2023! The submission deadline is January 31, 2023.

SCHD23 is one of the largest gatherings of clinicians and researchers interested in cancer health disparities. Accepted abstracts will be published in the International Journal of Cancer Care & Delivery (IJCCD). Submit here!

Best Abstract Award

The three highest-scoring abstracts submitted by a fellow or resident will receive complimentary registration and two free hotel nights during the conference. A fellow or resident must be the first author of the abstract.
